Eco-Homes Reach Development Milestone

Saxon Weald celebrated reaching the halfway point in the construction of their new eco-homes at New Street, Horsham, this week.

The 38 flats and houses are some of the greenest in the country, with future residents expected to have energy bills of around just £100 per year.

The scheme features 12 homes which will be the first social housing in the Southeast to be built to the PassivHaus standard. The remaining properties will meet level five of the Code for Sustainable Homes, with features such as triple-glazed windows, photovoltaic roof panels and extra thick insulation.

The £6 million development has received just over £3m in funding from the Homes and Communities Agency, as well as investment from Horsham District Council.

David Standfast, Saxon Weald's Chief Executive, said: "This is a real flagship development for us – homes of the highest standard which will not only save our residents money, but will also help Saxon Weald do its bit for the environment."

The scheme consists of 17 houses and 21 flats; five of the flats are for adults with learning disabilities, with a sixth flat allocated to their live-in carer. The homes will be ready for occupation in December 2011.
