Morgan Sindall has been awarded a £6.7 million contract to construct a new flagship leisure centre for Leicester's De Montfort University (DMU).
The leading construction and infrastructure business has started work on the new facility which will feature a 25-metre pool, gym, climbing wall, eight racket courts and studios for yoga, pilates and aerobics.
The two-storey building has been designed by S&P Architects, the firm behind the London 2012 Olympic Aquatic Centre. The design features metallic outer shells and cedar-lined interiors which will form towers and overhangs, filtering natural light and creating views into the building.
Nick Seddon, Area Manager for Morgan Sindall, said: "Morgan Sindall has a wealth of experience in both the leisure and higher education sectors and we’re delighted to be able to utilise this on the project. The new leisure centre will provide fantastic facilities for both DMU students and the general public."
Located on the corner of Western Boulevard and Duns Lane in Leicester’s West End, the leisure centre is scheduled for completion in July 2012.
