SITA Cornwall has received notification from the Secretary of State, Eric Pickles MP, that he has granted planning permission for the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre.
The planning permission is subject to a number of conditions that SITA Cornwall has to comply with before the development commences.
The decision comes following a recommendation made by the Planning Inspector after consideration of evidence submitted during a planning inquiry that began in March 2010 and ended in October 2010.
David Buckle, Project Director at SITA UK said: "We are very pleased to have received a positive decision from the Secretary of State. We have always believed that the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre is the best technical, financial and environmental solution for managing Cornwall's waste."
Mr Buckle continued: "We look forward to working with Cornwall Council and local residents to start the work as soon as possible. We understand the importance of continuing to address local concerns and we are committed to engaging with local residents and their elected representatives in the coming months."
