Kier Stoke Helps Revamp Stoke-On-Trent

Construction News Image
Kier Stoke brightens up existing facilities to enc Kier Stoke and Stoke-on-Trent City Council are working together to regenerate the city and improve its facilities to encourage shoppers and commuters to the city centre.

A team from Kier Stoke, a partnership between Kier Building Maintenance and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, has refurbished the John Street multi-storey car park in Stoke-on-Trent city centre to improve the appeal and safety of the underused facility for the general public.

The work, contracted by the council's parking services, included cleaning the car park's lifts and stairwells as well as refurbishing the stairwell doors. Local firm Peake's Painting and Decorating painted all the walls and ceilings of the top five storeys of the building. Kier Stoke's electricians also re-lamped the existing lighting to ensure the car park is well lit and safe.

Kier Stoke partnership manager, Mick Fallon, said: "We're pleased to have worked closely with Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s property services to conduct this work to ensure that together we can provide clean and safe facilities for the local community."

The revamp was completed just as the adjacent John Street surface car park closed to become the site for the new city centre bus station. The refurbishment of the multi-storey facility will replace these lost spaces and provide valuable parking for the city’s visitors.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council Technical Services Assistant Director, Pete Price, said: "The rejuvenation of the city centre aims to provide long-term benefits and transport solutions for our community and those wanting to visit our town for the day. This project is in line with our overall regeneration plans for the city."
