UCATT Wins Compensation For Members

Construction union UCATT won £7.1 million in accident compensation on behalf of its members in 2010. This is an increase on the figure £6.35 million of compensation awarded to UCATT members in 2009.

George Guy, Acting General Secretary of UCATT, said: "These figures demonstrate that construction workers remain highly vulnerable to injury while at work. If a worker is injured at work, UCATT will do everything possible to ensure that compensation is awarded. Far too many construction companies continue to fail to take safety at work seriously."

UCATT also won over £1.4 million for members in employment tribunal awards in 2010. A substantial increase compared to the figures recorded in 2009.

Mr Guy, added: "Employers have tried to use the recession to sack workers and ignore employment laws. Employers need to realise that they cannot get away with these actions and UCATT will always seek justice for our members."
