Derby Teenager Joins Lovell Management Trainee Programme

A construction apprentice turned management trainee from Derby is building the next stage of his career after being earmarked by Lovell as one of its stars of the future.

John Scowby has been promoted to the post of management trainee. The 19-year-old impressed his bosses during his apprenticeship in Maintenance Operations, which saw him learning about a variety of construction trades including carpentry, bricklaying and plumbing.

As a member of the company's national Lovell Management Development Academy, John is being prepared for a senior role with the company. During his two-year traineeship, he will gain practical managerial experience with Lovell and will study for a BTEC qualification in Construction and the Built Environment at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire, which he will attend on a day-release basis.

"When I started my apprenticeship, my goal was always to become a general foreman," explained John. "When I was asked if I would be interested in joining the management training programme, I didn't have any hesitation in saying yes. It's a fantastic opportunity and will really help me in achieving my ambition. I believe that I can be an asset to Lovell in the future and I’m determined to progress as far as I can in my career."

The Lovell Management Development Academy helps management trainees identify where their strengths lie and enables them to choose the areas they want to specialise in.

To develop his practical managerial skills, John has joined the Lovell site team working on a £24 million, four-year scheme to refurbish more than 2,200 homes for Three Oaks Homes in Blaby, Leicestershire.
