Tower Cranes Arrive At Rathbone Market

John Sisk & Son has been working on site at the English Cities Fund (ECf) scheme since the groundbreaking in December 2010. It has recently completed all of the piling work ahead of schedule and the basement bulk excavation work is well underway.

The cranes were erected by London Tower Cranes and Baldwins and will play a vital role lifting heavy equipment, supplies and materials where needed on the site. To assemble the tower cranes, Baldwins utilised one of their largest mobile cranes with a lifting capacity of 1,000 tonnes. This was transported to site under police escort before being assembled.

Nigel Warnes, Director Major Projects, Sisk, commented: "Most of the work to date has been at ground level, but with the tower cranes up, operational progress on the foundations and insitu concrete frame of the building will really start to gather pace. We're pleased with progress so far and interest has been high with all the activity behind the scenes. Importantly for Canning Town the site is now employing even more local people than was originally expected and the works are being undertaken with minimal disruption to the market area or Barking Road."

Sisk is delivering the full design and construction of Phase one of the prestigious Rathbone Market scheme. This first phase will be a mixed use retail and residential development providing 271 apartments within four high rise buildings and will be completed by summer 2012.
