Birmingham City Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor John Lines, joined Lovell representatives as work on the latest council homes being delivered by Birmingham City Council’s Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust got underway.
The 26 high quality, rented new homes in Ingoldsby, Northfield are part of 706 new homes in the process of being delivered by the Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust, as the council leads the way nationally with its bold house building programme. The Ingoldsby estate has long been identified as a priority area for regeneration.
This scheme, which comprises a mix of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bed houses, is due to be completed by the end of March 2012. Representatives from Capita Symonds and Housing Liaison Boards were also present to celebrate the occasion.
Councillor John Lines said: "It gives me great pleasure to mark the beginning of work on this development, bringing the delivery of 26 new family homes in Ingoldsby another step closer. I am grateful for the support of local Councillor Tim Huxtable in bringing this to fruition. I look forward to welcoming new families into these new homes early next year."
David Gough, Lovell Regional Director, commented: "To have so many colleagues and partners here today just goes to show how important this and all the other new developments are to the City of Birmingham. Being based in Birmingham ourselves, it gives us great pride to continue our involvement in building these new homes. We have seen a resurgence in council house building across the country but Birmingham is certainly leading the way."
The homes on the Ingoldsby estate, which will be for social rent, will showcase exceptional design, space standards and energy efficiency. All 26 properties will achieve Code For Sustainable Homes Level 4. Residents are set to benefit through reduced running costs and energy bills.Lovell has created an opportunity for a local apprentice to work on the development and the housebuilder continues to work with local companies wherever possible. The homes will be delivered by the council’s Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust.
