Local housing provider Guinness Hermitage, residents and partners have celebrated the completion of much-needed new affordable homes in the village of Baydon, Wiltshire.

The eight new homes are part of the open market development Newtons Walk and will provide a mix of family houses and flats in the village.

Strong support has for the scheme has been received from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which has invested nearly £575,000 in the homes through the National Affordable Housing Programme.

Paul Waghorn, Guinness Hermitage's Project Manager, said: "Guinness Hermitage, with the support of Wiltshire Council, is delighted to be providing much-needed homes for local people in the village of Baydon, extending our property stock in this lovely rural community.

"The scheme developer, Messrs Redcliffe Homes, takes great pride in high standards of workmanship and the development has been warmly received by the local community."

Duncan Warner, HCA investment and regeneration manager, added: "Providing high quality affordable housing in villages like Baydon is very important to us.

"The positive impact can be felt beyond those who live in the homes themselves. Providing access to affordable housing can help people remain in the villages where they have always lived, maintain family ties and other networks."
