Bristol road projects are looking more likely to come to fruition this week as they have not only been included as part of the DfT's Investment in Local Major Transport Schemes and have now also moved closer to getting government funding.

The A38 and A370 link road and a 'rapid transit' bus route joining the north of the city and Hengrove have both been moved into what is called the development pool.

This means the Department for Transport (DfT) is now asking councils to submit funding bids for the schemes - with a major filliup on the way for local contractors.

They join the Bath transportation package, the Ashton Vale to Temple Meads bus route and the Weston-super-Mare package - also in this pool.

Once the DfT gives the go-ahead they move into the supported pool - schemes the department is prepared to fund subject to the renegotiation of funding bids from the local authority.
