Lovell Set For £2.75m Green Homes Scheme

Construction News Image
Lovell is set to build a £2.75 million development of affordable homes for Orbit Homes in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Lovell will start work in March on the scheme which will create 29 energy-efficient houses and flats for social rent and shared ownership through the housing association.

Homes will achieve Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system for measuring the environmental performance of new housing. This means that properties will be 44 per cent more energy-efficient than housing built to current Building Regulations. Sustainable features include solar photovoltaic panels which use sunlight to generate electricity. Homes will be built using a thin joint construction method which results in less waste and delivers high levels of insulation.

Designed by architects at Ingleton Wood, the development on land at St Margaret’s Road will create nine two- and three-bedroom houses for shared ownership with eight two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and 12 one- and two-bedroom flats for social rent. The scheme is set to be completed in May 2012.

"We are delighted to be able to provide much needed affordable housing in Lowestoft, which we believe will fit in well with the existing residential area and community," said Orbit Homes assistant development director, Paul Bonnett. "This is an excellent example of how partnership working can produce a fit-for-purpose development of affordable, mixed tenure homes."
