The construction of Bilston's new £14.9 million leisure centre is progressing well with the building rapidly taking shape.

Work is on schedule with the steelwork almost complete and the swimming pool tanks currently being tested.

Shepherd Construction estimates that the steelwork programme, which has involved the erection of some 800 tonnes of steel, should be complete by the end of February and work is now underway on the masonry, roofing and cladding programmes.

The 5,600m² leisure centre, the first phase of the Bilston Urban Village regeneration programme, is set to be a striking new landmark in the town when it is finished this summer, and has already brought additional employment and economic benefits to Wolverhampton.

It will provide a 25-metre pool, learner pool, sports hall, health and fitness suite, four squash courts and meeting rooms. The striking, contemporary structure will have floor-to-ceiling glass windows and will complement the new South Wolverhampton and Bilston Academy which is due to be built nearby.

The leisure centre is being built on behalf of Wolverhampton City Council, with the project managed by the council’s Property Services team who have provided professional and technical support.
