Staff and pupils joined Kier London to mark a milestone in the rebuilding of their school with a topping out ceremony.

Sally Lajalati, Head Teacher at Colindale Primary School in Poolsford Road, Colindale, said how"fantastically privileged" she felt to have her school redeveloped as part of Barnet's First Class Schools programme.

"I thought the whole process of having a new school built would be a painful process, but it hasn't been at all," she commented. "The construction company Kier London has done everything possible to help the project run as smoothly as possible, as have staff at Barnet Council."

Colindale is the sixth school to be redeveloped as part of Barnet Council's Primary Schools Capital Investment Programme and the tenth in the borough’s First Class Schools programme.

Designed to be as environmentally sustainable as possible, the new school boasts a swimming pool available for community use, new play areas and flexible teaching spaces. Kier London is due to finish building work in the summer, with children moving into their new classrooms at the beginning of September 2011.
