Christmas has come early for Wiltshire tenants as the first council homes to be built in the county for around 30 years are handed over to their new families.
The 14 new homes in Trowbridge were completed by builders Wainhomes this month, with a further 17 scheduled for completion in February next year. The first tenants moved into their homes this week.
These will be the first council-owned homes in Trowbridge since the authority's housing was transferred to West Wiltshire Housing Society (now known as Selwood Housing). People can bid for the houses through the Homes4Wiltshire scheme.
The 31 houses are part of a project to provide 65 new council-managed homes in the Salisbury and Trowbridge areas, which is supported by a £4.3m investment from the Homes and Community Agency (HCA).
New tenant Selina Molcher said: "We're really pleased we have been able to get a house with a garden as it will really benefit our children as they grow up.
"We are excited to be moving in and spending the first Christmas in our new home."
