Dobbies Garden Centres has welcomed the decision by local councillors to grant permission for a new eco-friendly garden centre in Speke, Liverpool.
Following finalisation of the planning process through the Government Office for the North West, Dobbies will confirm dates for construction to begin on site.
The £8 million development will be constructed from sustainably-sourced timber and other natural construction materials and will include a range of environmentally-friendly features including energy efficient lighting systems and extensive rainwater recycling.
The Dobbies Garden World development is proposed on an 8.78 acre gateway site off Speke Boulevard, on the approach road to Liverpool John Lennon Airport on a site the company has purchased from Peel Land and Property Limited.
Stuart Wright, Dobbies Director of Property, said: "We're delighted to be a step closer to opening a Dobbies Garden World in Liverpool and will hopefully conclude the planning process successfully in due course. Following the finalisation, we plan to open our doors to customers in Liverpool during the 2011/2012 financial year and we look forward to planning for construction to start on site."
