GQA Qualifications (GQA) is the specialist Awarding Body offering national qualifications in primarily glass and glass related occupations.
It is the only national Awarding Body with over 20 years of continuous provision of national glass related qualifications for Automotive Glaziers, Glass Manufacturers, Fabricators, Glass Processors, Glaziers and Installers.
The majority of qualifications awarded are competence based qualifications eg NVQ's (including QCF NVQ's) and SVQ's.
Following on from last year's success, GQA again took the decision to be a Sponsor of the Proskills Awards 2010. Proskills is the Sector Skills Council (SSC) working with the glass sector to determine the National Occupational Standards (NOS) upon which national qualifications are based. GQA sponsored the 2010 Apprentice of the Year Award which was awarded at a lavish ceremony at Alton Towers in November.
An unusual precedent occurred in that the Proskills judges after considerable deliberation of high quality entries, declared two apprentices as joint winners: Colin Dewhurst, a Pilkington apprentice and Sam Williams, a Johnsons Tiles apprentice.
