Steve Kirk, managing director of Lovell Respond, has raised over £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support through a 350-mile sponsored coast-to-coast cycle ride.
Steve and son Curtis, 18, spent a week tackling the marathon journey from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Tynemouth in the north east - and back again via the Scottish borders. “As we expected it was quite an adventure with our fair share of setbacks but overall, an amazing experience,” said Steve, who heads up Lovell Respond, which is the response and planned maintenance business of national affordable housing specialist Lovell.
The trip saw them covering around 50 miles a day, on and off-road, with challenges including the steep climbs of the Lake District and the Pennines.
“We had lots of help along the way and would also like to thank everyone who was kind enough to sponsor us,” commented Steve. “To have raised so much for Macmillan’s work supporting people with cancer is fantastic.”
Together, Steve and Curtis, a student at Coventry University, have notched up more than twice their original fundraising target of £1,000. Their total includes a £250 donation from Lovell.
