Morgan Sindall Scoops £8.5m Newman University College Scheme

Morgan Sindall has been awarded an £8.5 million contract to create a new entrance building and library at Newman University College, Birmingham.

The project will create a striking new three-storey building including a state-of-the-art library, offices, teaching space, a café and an atrium.

Morgan Sindall's specialist piling team will carry out works to provide a solid base for the new building before installation of the exposed concrete frame. They will construct 262 continuous flight augered bearing piles, 350mm and 400mm diameter, to a maximum depth of 18.1 metres.

"We are thrilled to have been chosen to create an inspiring new learning space for Newman University College," said Morgan Sindall Area Director Dave Smith. "Since the formation of the new Morgan Sindall brand, bringing together our design, construction and infrastructure services, we have been able to offer our customers a more integrated solution and on this project we will be working with our dedicated piling team to help deliver a first-class facility."

The main building will feature extensive fair faced concrete structure, internally and externally, to a bespoke specification, and will be constructed in a live learning environment, connecting the new entrance to the existing teaching space. In the later stages of the scheme, Morgan Sindall will refurbish existing science and art blocks.

The entire project is due to be completed in January 2012.
