Home Insulation Reaches 1,000 Installations

More than 1,000 home insulation measures worth around £273,000 have been installed in privately owned and rented homes in Peterborough over the past 19 months thanks to the Peterborough Home Insulation Scheme (PHIS), run by Peterborough City Council.

With more than £100,000 still available in the current year, there is still time for residents with a total gross household income of less than £25,000 to apply for free loft and cavity wall insulation improvements, subject to a survey.

Peterborough City Council is working in partnership with Aran Services to provide loft and cavity wall insulation to privately owned and rented properties across the city. The scheme saw 823 homes improved in 2009/10 at a cost of £230,000 and 193 homes improved in the first seven months of 2010/11 at a cost of £43,000.

The Peterborough scheme is being run in conjunction with the Eastern Carbon Reduction Initiative (Eastern CRI), which is about to reach its 3,000th private householder in just over one year. The project installs cavity wall and loft insulation for householders across the East of England taking advantage of the grants available for each specific council area.

It uses authorised installers who all work to the same standards of delivery and cost ensuring that a consistent installation service is achieved. A private household can have cavity wall or loft insulation installed for as little as £169. Householders over the age of 70 or those who qualify as a priority group may even have the installation carried out without charge.
