Kier celebrated a significant milestone in its construction of an important new housing development for older people in Nottingham.
Kier Marriott and Kier Partnership Homes marked reaching the highest point of Albany House, a purpose-built scheme dedicated to enabling older residents to maintain their independence, dignity and personal choice, with a special topping out ceremony.
Joined by Matt Cooney, Group Chief Executive of client Leicester Housing Association, and representatives of Nottingham City Council, Kier conducted the celebration to thank the workers for their efforts, to honour their safe working and to wish safety for those about to complete the construction. The topping out ceremony involved everyone that has played a role from inception to completion of the new facility and also presents an opportunity for stakeholders to see the new building.
The scheme, on Woodhouse Street, St Ann's, comprises a mix of 71 one and two-bed social rent extra care apartments and replaces the previous 34 flats, which were unpopular and blighted by significant voids. The development also provides a 60-space day care centre - funded by Nottingham City Council - which will replace the outdated existing centre, and new communal facilities including a restaurant, lounge, hairdressers and activity rooms.
Kier Marriott Director Richard Charman commented: "We are delighted to have reached this important point of this significant construction project. We now look forward to reaching a successful conclusion of the project by continuing to work together and producing a fantastic building for its residents."
Kier is on schedule to complete Albany House early next year.
