Construction union UCATT has welcomed the decision by Hull Council to award the housing maintenance contract formerly held by Connaught to Lovells.
The decision secures the jobs of 96 workers and also ensures that their existing terms and conditions are maintained.
It had been feared that the council would opt to split the existing contract between other contractors, which would have resulted in job losses and could have meant that the remaining workers were re-employed on lesser terms and conditions.
Steve Murphy, Regional Secretary of UCATT Yorkshire, said: "This is the best possible outcome for the workforce. The uncertainty about their future prospects has been lifted. Tenants can expect to have their full repairs and maintenance services reinstated."
The former Connaught workers have undertaken high profile campaigning in order to persuade the Council to support the wholesale transfer of the contract.
