FMB And MPs Support Renewable Heat

The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) was joined by MPs and a solar-powered hot air balloon outside Parliament in support of clean, green heat for businesses and homes on Tuesday.

MPs from Government and Opposition parties backed a Renewable Heat Incentive that would encourage people to switch to greener ways of heating our homes and workplaces. Among the MPs supporting the event were the Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary Meg Hillier MP, the environmental campaigner and Conservative MP Zac Goldsmith, and Shadow Local Government Minister Chris Williamson MP.

The FMB is working together with a number of organisations to call on the Government to prove its green heat promise is not just hot air. There are increasing concerns that despite the previous Government’s pledge to introduce this incentive in April 20111, reports now suggest that it could be delayed or watered down in the Comprehensive Spending Review.

Brian Berry, Director of External Affairs at the FMB said: "We are calling on the Government to honour its pledge to introduce a Renewable Heat Incentive that will create jobs and save people money on fuel bills. Without strong incentives like this, consumer and commercial awareness of renewable heat will be low and the UK will miss out on tremendous economic opportunities, as well as missing important climate change targets."
