Ian Jones has been appointed as managing director of Galliford Try Water.
He will be responsible for its business with clients including Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water, Scottish Water, Welsh Water and Thames Water.
For the past eight years Ian has been director of ETM, a joint venture between Galliford Try and AECOM Design Build, which is an AMP5 framework contractor for Yorkshire Water. His first two years with the business was in the role of construction manager.
Prior to that Ian held various site and contracts management positions with Shand (which was purchased in 1989 by Morrison Construction now part of the Galliford Try group). Notable projects he worked on included the refurbishment of the iconic Ribblehead viaduct in the Yorkshire Dales, dock extension at Immingham and Haltwhistle viaduct in Northumberland.
Ian said: "The emphasis is now switching from procuring our workload for the next four to five years to delivering it. Many of the early schemes in AMP5 are in design, some are already on site and others will be starting up over the autumn and winter.
"The margins are tighter than ever so the big challenge is to maintain quality, service and value for money for our clients while turning the workload into profit. Working ever more closely with our clients and joint venture partners and from an increasingly early stage in the scoping and development of schemes will play a key role in achieving this. We now effectively act as consultant and contractor all in one."
