Construction work at the new £35 million theatre in Aylesbury is now complete and audiences are set to enjoy some of the best acts in the UK performing at the 1,800-capacity venue.

Willmott Dixon completed the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre for Aylesbury Vale District Council. The venue takes its name from its setting next to the canal and was a popular choice among local people.

The theatre will be a cultural hub for Aylesbury and local area with a 1,200-seat auditorium converting into a 1,800-capacity hall, and a 220-seat suite for smaller events including dance, drama, meetings and conferences.

The new theatre, which replaces Aylesbury Civic Centre, is expected to attract 300,000 people from the region each year as soon as it opens on 12 October.

Councillor John Cartwright, Leader of the Council, said: "This is a magnificent project for local people and they should be very excited about what will be a wonderful new theatre.

"We are grateful that local people took advantage of the opportunity to contribute to the naming of the theatre. We received more suggestions than we expected and it’s clear that people put a lot of thought into devising a name."
