Work on a £1.5 million development that will help regenerate a neighbourhood in Widnes is due to start next month.

Halton Housing Trust, and development partner Plus Dane Group, have been given the go ahead to develop the site at Halton View after half the funding was secured from Mid Mersey Grove Point. The remaining £760,000 will be met by the Trust.

Neil McGrath, Halton Housing Trust's Director of Resources, said: "The development will demonstrate a confidence in the area and support the wider regeneration of the neighbourhood.

"It will encourage customers to remain in this already popular residential area and improve their housing circumstances."

Claire Griffiths, Managing Director of Regeneration and Commercial Development at Plus Dane Group, said: "Increasing the provision of affordable family homes is a key issue and this development will help to address this in Halton, creating 12 new high quality houses.

"We are delighted to be working in partnership with Halton Housing Trust to deliver this important scheme for the area."

The 12 properties are planned for Houghton Street and will be built to Lifetime Homes Standard, reflecting research that one in three households in the borough will at some point need to be adapted to provide independent living.
