Perry Common Library in Birmingham will re-open to the public on August 23 at following major improvement work to the building.

A £665,000 investment has enabled improvements to the Grade II listed library including the replacement of all skylights, high level windows and roof coverings to ensure the building is watertight.

All roof timbers have been treated for wet and dry rot, and beams have been replaced where necessary. Large sections of interior walls have been re-plastered and the library has had major electrical works completed.

The building has also been fitted with a fire alarm system and re-decorated.

Additionally some adjustments have been made to the layout to improve access for those in wheelchairs or with buggies. Improvements have been made to the external ramp and a new enquiry counter has been installed which makes it easier for library users to enter the building.
