Maintenance work is to be carried out on five bridges at the southern end of the M11.

Expansion joints, which allow bridges and viaducts to safely expand and contract with temperature changes, will be replaced between junctions 4 (Woodford) and 5 (Loughton). Sections of the road will also be resurfaced.

The work will mean the link road between the southbound M11 and the eastbound A406, and the link road between the westbound A406 and the northbound M11 will be closed overnight from July 5, with a signed diversion route in place. The work is expected to last four weeks.

Amy Wiseman, Highways Agency route performance manager for the M25, said: "The bridge maintenance and resurfacing is part of our commitment for safer and reliable roads, and will minimise the risk of any unforeseen road closures in the future.

"The work will take place overnight when traffic flows are at their lowest, to reduce the impact of the work on road users when the roads are busier."

The bridges affected by the work are the Woodford East and West Viaducts and Redbridge Seven Span Viaduct on the link roads, and the Chigwell Road Bridge and the Woolston Hall Bridge near junction 5 of the M11.
