Work is well underway at the site of the £20 million rebuild of King David High School and King David Primary School in Crumpsall, Manchester.

And next Monday (28 June), pupils will mark the successful progress of the building work by planting an English Oak tree on the site of the new schools.

The Eaton Road site is currently home to an 800-place high school and sixth form, a junior and infant school and nursery.

For the first time, Manchester has brought together its Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme and Primary Capital Programme (PCP).

Work will be completed at the school in the winter of 2010 with pupils moving in during October 2010. The overall scheme, including the refurbishment of some retained buildings, demolition and landscaping of the new school grounds will be finished by July 2011.

The new 9,000 plus sq m buildings, will house a 420 place primary school, a 60 place nursery and the high school.

King David Schools' Chair, Joshua Rowe, said: "We are excited at the prospect of ultra modern facilities, which we hope will further enhance the extremely high academic standards of the schools."
