A new London Assembly investigation into what funding cuts could mean for the future of affordable housing in the capital kicks off today with a public hearing at City Hall.
The Assembly's Planning and Housing Committee is reviewing the role of the Mayor and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) in delivering affordable housing, and assessing the prospects for meeting targets beyond 2012 against a backdrop of reduced government grant and lower Section 106 funding.
The Committee will also explore whether there are innovative investment models and different types of housing tenure or new approaches to public sector land values that could help address the need for new affordable homes, and the social impacts of failing to meet the need for them.
