New Bridge Design Gets Underway

The design of a new bridge over the River Bollin on Hall Lane in Macclesfield is underway.

Known locally as Gurnett Bridge, the structure suffered major damage following the adverse weather conditions across Cheshire East in January.

Ground investigation works have now been completed, allowing engineers to design foundations for a new bridge.

It is hoped a new structure will be in place by December this year.

A temporary footbridge is now in place but this cannot be used by equestrians who are requested to seek alternative routes.

Designs for the bridge will be presented to the Parish Council in the near future.

Cheshire East Council is also inviting experienced civil engineering contractors to tender for the construction of the new bridge.

The site is currently being monitored regularly to ensure public safety.

Cheshire East Councillor, Rod Menlove, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Environmental Services said: "I am pleased to hear that work on the new bridge is now underway. Replacing these types of structure can be a lengthy process but it is important we find the right design and the right contractor.

"I would like to thank local residents for their continued patience and understanding at this time."
