Energy company E.ON has awarded nearly £10,000 to Age Concern in Merstham to fund a range a energy efficiency measures at the centre.

The grant will be used to install roof insulation, new 'A' rated double glazing and new radiators which will be connected to an efficient boiler to help make the building more energy efficient.

Tony Jenkin Jones, Community Relations Executive for E.ON, said: "We have an ongoing relationship with Age Concern and we're thrilled to be able to award the Merstham, Redhill and Reigate centre with this grant, which will not only help reduce their impact on the environment but hopefully save on energy costs too."

Michael Ward, Chief Officer for the Merstham centre, said: "We're delighted to be able to accept this funding which will mean so much to us as a facility for the elderly, as well as to the local groups which hire the hall.

"This grant from E.ON will allow us to have greater control over the energy we use in our day centre. Not only will this play an important role in the welfare of the older generation who visit the centre, but it will help in keeping costs down."
