Buffing Up The Canterbury Butter Market

Construction News Image
Robus Ceramics the tiling manufacturer and supplier have transformed this wonderful Grade I listed building opposite the Cathedral in Canterbury's world famous Butter Market with its trademark buff mathematical tiles.

Robus specialises in the manufacture of clay and glazed mathematical tiles, exterior glazed cladding tiles, roof tiles and fittings and floor and wall tiles and are able to match any colour, texture, size or glaze exactly to a clients needs.

Mathematical tiles were used to make medieval and other timber framed structures appear as if they were made from brick by attaching the mathematical slips to the exterior walls. The beautiful effect can clearly be seen in the picture and further examples can be seen by visiting Robus' listing on Build.co.uk (www.construction.co.uk/company_364175.htm)

Company Director Rosemary Robus commented: "We are delighted with the Butter Market project and feel the overall effect achieved from our mathematical tiles clearly demonstrates the very high quality we are able to deliver to any installation utilising our products."

The Butter Market project is the latest in Robus' portfolio of work that includes restorations and installation at Althrop House, Alton Castle, Brighton Library, Chilham Castle and Rochester Cathedral.

Situated in the Heart of Canterbury the town's historical Butter Market has served as a focal point for the town for more than 800 years. Situated on top of Roman ruins and a series of secret tunnels, once used to hide monks, the square now serves as a War Memorial and for local public events.
