Construction News Image
Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, announces today that it has been awarded support services work valued at approximately £200 million from the Highways Agency, Yorkshire Water and Anglian Water.

The Highways Agency has awarded Balfour Beatty, in joint venture, a further one-year extension to its Area 2 Enhanced Managing Agent Contractor (EMAC) contract, covering the strategic motorway and trunk road network in the South West region.

The one-year extension is worth approximately £70 million and extends the contract to June 2012.

The initial £400 million Area 2 Enhanced Managing Agent Contractor (EMAC) contract was awarded in late 2004 and covers operations, maintenance and improvement schemes for part of the strategic road network, as well as maintenance of technology assets for the whole of the region.

Yorkshire Water has awarded Balfour Beatty a contract for the investigation, design and build of its water networks in the southern area of Yorkshire Water’s remit. The contract, which will commence in April 2010 under the AMP5 capital programme, is for five years and is worth £70 million, with an option for a five-year extension.

Anglian Water has awarded Balfour Beatty its water networks repair and maintenance with developer services contract. The three-year contract, which will commence in April 2010, is worth £60 million, with an option for a two-year extension and covers an extensive area from the Humber Bridge to Dunstable, including Lincoln, Grimsby, Grantham, Peterborough, Northampton and Milton Keynes.

Balfour Beatty will work with Anglian Water's network operational staff to improve the network. This is the first repair and maintenance contract that Anglian Water has awarded Balfour Beatty and will enable the two organisations to develop new ways or working which will help drive further efficiencies within the partnership.

Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said: "Anglian Water, Yorkshire Water and the Highways Agency are long-term customers and we are delighted to be deepening our relationship further with them on these contracts."
