Barnsley Cabinet Members have considered the latest cash injection into council housing across Barnsley.
Cllr Bill Newman, Cabinet Spokesperson for Development delivered the report which sought approval to invest nearly £33 million in 2010/2011 for council homes in Barnsley.
He said: "Some of this money may well be used to build new homes and over £11 million will be spent on making existing homes decent. I am also delighted to announce further investment into some of our major regeneration areas at New Lodge and Worsbrough. This investment alone is over £3.2 million and compliments the major new build that is currently taking place in those areas.
"Another area we know is important to residents is our adaptations scheme, enabling people with physical disabilities to remain in their homes and near to family and friends. We will be investing near £2 million in this programme from 1 April."
The majority of the improvement work to the existing stock will be undertaken by Berneslai Homes and Barnsley Council's new construction partner Kier.
