Disruption to trading at a world famous jewellery store on the corner of Old Bond Street and Piccadilly was kept to a minimum during recent restoration work to the buildings façades due to cleverly constructed scaffolding.
In a £250,000 contract, Szerelmey Restoration Limited erected specially designed scaffolding on the two main façades of this corner site to bridge over the shop front. Hoardings at street level painted in the livery of the shop with additional signs ensured the scaffolding caused no loss of trade while work was carried out.
The rear elevations were accessed with electric cradles to minimise disruption to the adjoining properties.
The Old Bond Street and Piccadilly façades were cleaned using a water cleaning method. Szerelmey formed temporary gutters to direct water away from pedestrians and door openings. Following cleaning each elevation was surveyed and a schedule of repairs formulated so stonework repointing and repairs could be undertaken. All previously painted surfaces were then redecorated while all mastic seals were removed and replaced.
Greg Verhoef of Szerelmey commented: "Continuity of business is always an important element in the service we provide to our clients. Our scaffolding solution ensured there was minimum disruption to this world famous jewellery business."
Irish Life Assurance plc and Bond Cond & Piccadilly Limited were the clients. Reek Sinclair was the contract administrator.
