Support For Energy Saving Initiative

Nottinghamshire County Council will be switching off electrical equipment on Wednesday 24 February, in support of a county-wide energy-saving initiative.

Councillors and employees will make sure lights, printers, computers and photocopiers in Council buildings are switched off when they leave and are being asked to use the minimum amount of electricity at home between 9pm and 6am the next morning.

They will be joining people across the county who are supporting BBC Radio Nottingham's Energy Experiment. The amount of energy saved across the county will then be measured.

The Council also took part in last year's Energy Experiment.

Councillor Richard Butler, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: "We are committed to cutting carbon emissions from our own buildings and helping residents and businesses across the county do the same. By taking part in the Energy Experiment we are aiming to save energy on the night and increase awareness of the urgent need to cut our energy consumption each and every day which, as well as benefiting the environment, will help to save money on energy costs."
