The London Brownfield Sites Database has won the coveted e-Government award at the Royal Town Planning Institute awards ceremony.

The London Brownfield Sites Database is the country's most comprehensive database of land available for redevelopment. It was developed by Arup and launched by the London Development Agency (LDA) and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) in October 2009.

The Database records around 2,300 previously developed 'brownfield' sites across London and uses up-to-the minute Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping.

It includes multiple layers of information such as access to transport routes, deprivation, social infrastructure and heritage status. Visitors to the database website can find sites suitable for development, and then explore and understand a site's context.

Peter Bishop, LDA Group Director of Design Development and Environment, said: "We are thrilled that the London Brownfield Sites Database has been recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute.

"The database is a great example of the London Development Agency's vision and innovation. It demonstrates that good partnerships – with the Homes and Communities Agency and the London boroughs – can deliver great results and help keep London a world class city."
