Kier Moss started the building work on Sandwell's new £2.9 million High Dependency Rehabilitation Unit at Heath Lane Hospital for client Sandwell Mental Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Designed by Kier Moss' architect, Archial, the 12-bed facility will provide care for people with serious, long-term mental health problems. Patients at the unit will receive a range of services such as psychiatry, psychology and speech & language therapy, as well as occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
The unit, which will be operational by December 2010, amounts to £3.7m of investment for Sandwell and the wider Black Country area and Kier Moss is working with its local supply chain to support the local economy throughout the duration of the project.
Kier Moss Director Brian Clarke said: "We are delighted to be now starting work on site for the Trust. All of the team worked incredibly hard together in the design stage. It will be good to see the fruit of their labours rising up out of the ground. It is important in these financially constrained times to be investing in these vital facilities for the future."
