Lovell Chosen To Build £4.3m Birmingham Council Homes

Lovell is set to build two new developments of energy-efficient council homes for Birmingham City Council's Municipal Housing Trust.

The schemes, together worth £4.3 million, are part of a major new-build programme for council homes, which is going ahead with investment from the City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Lovell will build 17 homes in Handsworth and 33 properties at Balsall Heath. All homes will meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. Properties will also meet Secured by Design standards. Lovell will provide a range of community training opportunities, including seven construction apprenticeships, and will be working with local schools.

Councillor John Lines, Birmingham City Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "I am proud to be leading our city's housing, not only providing homes for people but also creating jobs. This is great news for Birmingham and particularly our economy and the local construction industry.

"Not only will this scheme create homes, but it will help create apprenticeships for young people. We are in a recession but that will not hinder our progress to deliver the affordable homes that this city needs."
