Energy company E.ON has awarded £4,800 to Watnall Women's Institute Hall to improve the energy efficiency of the building, a grant that will also benefit the local community.

The hall, near Nottingham, provides a meeting place for both the WI and for local groups for leisure and educational activities, including a playgroup and social events for older members of the Watnall community.

The grant comes from E.ON's Sustainable Energy Fund which helps community groups and not-for-profit organisations develop sustainable energy measures.

The money will be used to install an insulated suspended ceiling to reduce the volume of the hall that needs heating, as well as providing double glazing throughout the centre.

Tony Jenkin Jones, Community Relations Executive for E.ON, said: "We're absolutely delighted to be able to award Watnall WI this funding to help them improve the facilities for the community, to reduce their impact on the environment and to save on costs."
