UK construction groups Kier and Carillion have been shortlisted for a design and build contract to provide new £20 million premises for the Ormiston Bushfield Academy in the Orton area of Peterborough.

Selection of the successful bidder is expected in May 2010 with a planning application following in the summer and construction starting in the autumn. The new buildings, replacing the 30-year-old premises of the former Bushfield Community College, are expected to be ready by summer 2012.

The academy project is being treated as a 'sample' scheme and the successful contractor is expected to be invited to undertake a £40 million rebuild of Stanground College and £20 million improvements at Orton Longueville School under the government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Design and build contracts for Stanground and Orton Longueville are due to be awarded in April 2011 with completion expected in summer 2013. Completion of these three projects will mean that all Peterborough’s secondary schools have benefited from massive investment in new buildings and modernised facilities in recent years.
