Housing associations and energy campaigners met the UK Energy Minister, David Kidney, and other MPs at a House of Commons event last night.

The National Housing Federation's Chief Executive, David Orr, and Amanda Nicklin from Stafford and Rural Homes asked ‘why are some of the poorest still paying more?’, while David Kidney outlined the Government's approach to tackling fuel poverty.

Mr Orr acknowledged the change in energy prices over the last two years, with most companies now charging prepay meter customers the same as quarterly bills. But he was concerned about the one million customers still paying more for their gas and wondered how long the current situation could last before prepay prices started sliding upwards again.

Amanda Nicklin told guests about the work done by Stafford and Rural Homes to insulate homes and provide financial advice to tenants. She particularly praised the work done by tenants themselves, including Janet Godwin, until recently co-ordinator of the local Tenant Resource Centre, who was also there to support the campaign.
