Community volunteers, the BTCV and Bury’s Ranger Service have joined forces to restore a 300 metre section of dry stone wall at Chesham Nature Reserve.

Following £15,000 of funding from Pilsworth Environmental Company and support from Bury Council, a specialist craftsman trained in dry stone walling was employed to repair and restore the severely damaged dry stone walls around the site.

The council has also helped to organise two free dry stone wall training sessions for the local community.

Councillor Dorothy Gunther, Executive Member for Environment and Transport, said: "The feed back from the members of the local community who have got involved with this project has been very positive and all enjoyed learning the traditional craft of dry stone walling from a Master Craftsman.

"The work which has been undertaken at Lower Lee Wood looks fantastic and has really helped to improve the environment. I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in this project and used their time to benefit others."
