The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has published a document which shows the extent of the business benefits created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The 'Building for 2012' map shows a snap-shot of around 1,500 companies spread across the UK that are providing goods and services to the ODA for the construction of the venues, and infrastructure needed for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
ODA Chairman John Armitt said: "Thousands of companies across the UK are winning contracts and helping to build the venues and infrastructure needed for the London 2012 Games.
"This map is a snapshot of how businesses are benefitting from the investment in the Games project. Its shows around 1,500 UK companies from Inverness to Taunton have already won contracts - a mere fraction of what will be the total number."
Two companies which have already benefited from working for the ODA on the design and planning of the Olympic Park, Atkins (engineering) and Populous (architects), have gone on to become London 2012 suppliers and are now working with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to stage the Games in 2012. LOCOG is beginning its Games-time procurement process this year, including the construction of temporary venues and buying over 900,000 pieces of sporting equipment.
