Overhead power lines in an area of Derby are coming down as part of a £500,000 scheme by Central Networks, the electricity distribution company for central England.

Castle Donington-based Central Networks is beginning the 12-week project from Monday 2nd November, which will see overhead power lines and supporting metal pylons removed from the Raynesway Park area and replaced with underground cables.

The scheme will also strengthen the power supply in the area for the future.

Nigel Spalding is managing the project for Central Networks. He said: "We hope people really will see the benefit of these works, not just visually but also because they'll enjoy an even more secure power supply.

"There will be some disruption to people using the bridleway while the works are going on and we apologise for that, but this really is the only way we can complete the works in a timely and safe manner."

Extra staff have been brought on to the project to ensure the works are completed quickly and efficiently.
