Liverpool Gains £2m Housing Boost

Liverpool has secured a £2 million grant to accelerate regeneration in Anfield and Breckfield.

The city's executive board has agreed to accept the £2 million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), which will be added to the council's £2.6 million Housing Market Renewal budget to help revamp the area.

Councillor Marilyn Fielding, Liverpool's Executive Member for Safer, Stronger Communities, said: "This is a significant investment from both the council and the Homes and Communities Agency. This new funding will provide an opportunity for residents to move out of houses close to derelict properties, allow us and our partners to improve the area more quickly and replace run down buildings with modern family homes that are fit for the 21st Century.

"The fact that the Homes and Communities Agency have given us such a large sum shows quite clearly that our Housing Market Renewal strategy is getting things right here in Liverpool -and it shows their confidence in the work that is being done here. But there is still much to do and we must continue to keep working hard to upgrade and renew the city's housing stock and provide the high quality homes that residents deserve."

The funding will be used to contribute to one of the city council's main corporate aims of: Developing our Communities by transforming the neighbourhood environment.

The council also intends to reduce the number of vacant properties, remove dereliction and promote sustainable home ownership of properties surrounding the city centre.
