When Network Rail needed waterproof joints for Kings Cross Station, they were pleased to receive the Expansion Joints Ltd (EJL) service.
A Trelleborg full elastomeric bonded product was put forward for the project – more usually associated with highways, car parks, etc... but in this instance it complied with the specifications perfectly. EJL's own staff installed the joints in conjuction with the clients and took the opportunity to use the job as a training demonstration for some of their clients. The installation was fully documented and photographed throughout, resulting in the compilation of an "Installation Guide" being published, which can be viewed on their website.
Leighton Bird, a Director of EJL, supervised the installation from start to finish, commented: "Not every job is a special, most of them are more run of the mill like this one, but its equally important to ensure good working practices are employed, so I thought that we should use this as an example to show some of our clients the correct way to install these joints – its been a very worthwhile exercise."
