The Cambridgeshire and Greater Peterborough Centres held a seminar on the subject of which was 'Building Control and the HSE working in Partnership to improve safety in Construction'.
The speakers were Kevin Dawson, Building Control Manager, Peterborough City Council and Peter Galsworthy, Principal Inspector, Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Both Kevin and Peter highlighted the roles of their respective organisations and explained how both the HSE and all Building Control Bodies were working together at both national and regional levels to improve safety on construction sites. All parties are committed to early exchange of information during the construction process, issuing appropriate guidance notes and undertaking joint inspections when considered necessary.
Both the HSE and the Building Control Alliance, of which the CIOB is a member, have recently agreed to sign up to a national agreement to strengthen links between all parties involved with undertaking inspections on construction sites.
