1st Tower Block Modernised At Miles Platting

The Renaissance Consortium – housing association Adactus, affordable housing developer and regeneration specialist Lovell and Investors in the Community – held a day of celebrations for residents to mark the completion of the first tower block modernised through a major regeneration programme for Miles Platting, east Manchester, led by urban regeneration company New East Manchester.

The high-rise has been transformed by the modernisation of existing flats and the addition of a brand-new extension and new state-of-the-art leisure and healthcare facilities for all residents at the sheltered housing scheme. Manchester Central MP Tony Lloyd and local actor John Henshaw were the special guests at celebrations to mark the finishing of the improvement programme for the tower block.

As well as extensive improvements to 52 existing flats at Butler Court – including new kitchens, bathrooms and windows – the scheme has introduced new facilities for the existing building including a top-floor 'sky lounge', guest rooms for visitors, art and craft rooms, and new assisted bathrooms. The purpose-built extension houses 20 self-contained flats (all with their own kitchen and bathroom facilities). It also includes two multi-use function rooms and a large communal kitchen, a hair salon, shop, wellbeing / therapy room, assisted bathroom and internet suite – facilities which are for use by all Butler Court residents. Residents also benefit from a 24-hour support service.
