An online learning course is available for property professionals to train in Residential Block Management (RBM). The programme is being re-launched in electronic form to meet new demand for RBM training to be delivered in a more flexible way.

"Before the downturn there was a big shortage of residential block managers," said Liz Black, Property Specialist for Asset Skills.

"Now there are plenty of people wanting to retrain for the job and we need to raise awareness of this training programme and make it more widely available to meet this demand."


The Residential Block Management course forms part of the Institute of Residential Property Management’s (IRPM) Part I Examination. It covers every aspect of managing large residential blocks, from sheltered housing to luxury city apartment buildings. It also contains updates on new legislation, a "latest news" section and the opportunity to chat online to an expert and other participants. The course has been specifically developed to be flexible and allow learning while at work and also acting as a reference tool for existing property managers.

The demand for block managers has grown steadily over the years because of the increasing number of single households and the ageing population. Asset Skills is the Sector Skills Council for property and has responsibility for ensuring the right sort of vocational training is available to employers.
